Defending as an Individual - Training Video 1

The drill shown is straightforward to set up and is designed to introduce the topic of dealing with a forward attacking from a central position and then from a wide position.  The main coaching points from a defensive perspective are as follows:

- the defender always maintains a side on stance, almost like a fencer, which allows him to keep his balance while moving backwards and also makes it easier to dart forward to try to win the ball, should the opportunity arise.

-  the defender doesn't dive in but keeps on his feet at a distance of around 1-1.5 metres between him and the forward, shepherding him into a less dangerous area.
