Defending as an Individual

Great teams are built on the foundation of a solid defence.  Whatever system teams decide to play, whether it be 4-4-2, 3-5-2 or any other tactical variation, a team cannot hope to be successful long term without having a good defence, with players who understand the system they are using but who also have the physical and mental attributes to defend the goal and potentially be the basis for attacks for their own team.

This course has been created for both players and coaches, providing information to improve your individual game or to allow you, as a coach, to create a good defensive structure within your own team.  Module 1 of the course is based around individual defending, so will look at areas such as tackling, reading the game, positional play and the general characteristics, both physical and mental, which creates good defensive players.  Module 2 then moves on to defending as a unit, whether that be in a 2 defenders v 1 attacker situation, right through to working as a defensive back line and whole team defending.  Module 3 is based around tactics and explores different systems that can be employed, looking at their pros and cons, and brings together all of the information covered in Modules 1 and 2 and puts it into a tactical context.

This module you are now working through is our 'Explore' Module and is a sample of the rest of the course, giving a clear outline of what to expect moving forward.  Once you enroll on Modules 1, 2 and 3 you will be given codes to access the material.  You will be supplied with enrollment information once you have finished the 'Explore' Module.  We hope that you enjoy the material we have prepared, that it is beneficial to you and your team and that you consider joining us in Module 1.
